Location and Venue

- Mana, Coromandel -

Mana, NZs leading retreat centre, is set on 350acres of land on the western side of the Coromandel peninsula. Native bush covers the land in a blanket of quiet calm. Little bush trails trace their way between the accommodations and the different buildings on the property. The trails and the birdsong will lead you on a little adventure up to the mountain summit where a large crystal embedded in the rock looks out to the islands beyond. The feeling is at the same time of space as well as of being held.

The Sanctuary, the crowning glory of Mana, is a temple that stands at the top of the mountain. Built by the founders of Mana many years ago this space is available for you to enjoy anytime. A moonlight visit to the sanctuary is a journey to remember. Mana has been hosting meditation and yoga retreats for over 40 years. The Octagon is our main practice room. Warmed by an abundant fireplace this spacious room also looks out over the ocean and islands. Being a dedicated practice space it holds the energy and steadiness that supports our practice.

Mana has a very extensive organic garden that provides the nutritious and delicious food that Mana is famous for.You will really know what cooked with love means after tasting this fare. All dietary needs catered for.

There is a very cool bush bath nestled amongst the native bush; participants can also treat themselves to the sauna as well as book in for a massage with a wide range of massage and healing therapists.

Meditation approach

The meditation practices and discussion will have a particular emphasis on cultivating quietness and steadiness in the mind as well as cultivating insights that bring freedom and peace of mind into our everyday life. Tibetan Buddhist meditations value an intelligent and structured approach to investigating ‘What is the mind?’ and consequently frame meditation in a practical and methodical way. The meditation practices will be taken from the Mahamudra and Dzogchen Tibetan Buddhist tradition. These will be presented in a secular, practical fashion.

The primary offerings on this retreat are:
1. Attention training practices specifically to quieten the busy mind; this cultivates tranquility and stability of mind.
2. Insight practices that liberate the mind from its conditioned patterns. This causes our habitual reactive emotional states to decline, we feel more connected to others and we begin to operate more from a spacious, ease-ful awareness rather than from the obsession with thought.
3. Quiet time to nourish and gain inspiration on a path forward.
